Lens being edged to shape in our own production

Lenses & Production

Every lens is one of a kind – made for your eyes.

In our own production every lens is made to your prescription: FreeForm technology, German-made machines – and people who check every step.

From eye test to finished lens

Four steps. One lens that fits only you.

  1. 01

    Your prescription

At your eye test your optician measures your prescription. Together with your frame and your wishes, it goes straight to our production – where everything starts with a blank.

Blank: approx. 90 mm diameter, 25 mm thick
  2. 02

    FreeForm manufacturing

Diamond cutters remove the material of the blank point by point. German-made FreeForm machines shape the back surface exactly to your prescription.

  3. 03

    Checking & cleaning

Every lens is checked by our staff before it goes through the washing line. Anything that doesn't meet the standard is rejected.

    Manual quality control
  4. 04

    Shaped & fitted

A high-tech edger cuts the lenses to the shape of your frame in seconds. Then our staff carefully fit them – and your glasses are ready.

FreeForm

Point by point instead of rough zones.

FreeForm means: the lens surface is calculated at thousands of points for your prescription, your frame and your line of sight – not in rough standard zones. That pays off especially with varifocals.

Individual

Calculated for your prescription, your frame and your pupillary distance.

Precise

Diamond tools shape the surface to within thousandths of a millimetre.

Noticeable

Wider fields of vision and less edge distortion – especially with varifocals.

Quality

Checked by people. Not just by machines.

Our staff check every step from the blank to the finished glasses. Parts that don't meet our standards are rejected immediately. And because we produce ourselves and cut out middlemen, we can offer complete prices hardly anyone else can.

Responsibility in production

The water from our production doesn't go into the sewer – it's collected and thoroughly cleaned.

Lens being edged to shape in our own production

Your questions. Our answers.

Where do the lenses come from?

From our own production: every lens is made there to your prescription – with German-made machines and technology.

What does FreeForm mean?

A manufacturing process in which the lens surface is calculated and cut individually point by point – instead of consisting of standard zones. A noticeable difference, especially with varifocals.

Which coatings and options are there?

Depending on the deal, for example a hard coating against scratches, super anti-reflective coating, thinner lenses (high index), a blue-light filter or a tint. What's included is on each deal page – your optician will advise you on the extras.*

How is quality checked?

After the surface has been machined, our staff check every lens manually before it is cleaned, edged to shape and fitted into the frame.

Your lens starts with an eye test at the optician.*

* Eye Test is subject to availability; Fees vary; NHS funding may apply.
